Proud of a stellar reputation that began over twenty years ago when he was named Rookie of the Year after his first twelve months as a Realtor, Bill formed a partnership with his brother John in a quest to offer clients unsurpassed real estate representation. Known as “The Brothers Gough,” Bill and John were the top team at Santa Barbara’s Prudential California Realty for nearly a decade and are in the top 2% of Realtors nationwide. Growing-up in Santa Barbara and developing an intense respect for the area’s beauty, culture and people, Bill knew he wanted to help others experience the privilege of home ownership in the community. After studying law at Santa Barbara City College and the University of California at Santa Barbara, he pursued a career in law enforcement where he says he learned valuable communication skills that he applies on a daily basis to his job as a Realtor. “Most importantly, I learned to listen,” he says, “Working with people in a constructive way is about understanding their needs and motivations, then figuring out the best solution for everyone involved.”
While superlative communication and negotiation abilities contribute to his success, Bill credits his knowledge of the Santa Barbara area and teamwork with his brother – which has included building and selling new homes – as a prime factor in achieving his position at the top of his profession.
Continuously engaged in giving back to the community he loves, Bill is actively involved with the Boys & Girls Club, Santa Barbara Rescue Mission, Elings Park, Police Activities and Navy Leagues as well as other community and youth organizations.
A veteran Realtor and Broker with over three decades of experience, John is one of the most recognized and respected real estate professionals in the Santa Barbara area. Subsequent to earning his agents license in his mid-20’s, he built and sold new homes; a venture he credits with giving him a comprehensive knowledge of all phases of the building permit process as well as home construction and marketing. “I learned a lot about quality residential construction,” he states, “Experience with good contractors, then and now, translates into being able to create a more saleable property for our clients.”
Working closely with his brother, Bill, also a Realtor, John credits good client communication and negotiation skills, as well as a respect for investment goals as keys to success for “The Brothers Gough.” They were the top team at Santa Barbara’s Prudential California Realty for nearly a decade, are in the top 2% of Realtors nationwide, and are continuing their stellar track record at Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Realty. “We have people skills and the ability to relate to many different personalities,” John says, adding, “Working as a team, we can assure our clients that there will always be someone there to answer their questions or address their concerns.”
John graduated from San Marcos High School, and then went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration & Marketing, and to play football, at California State University at Long Beach. Married and with three children and now a grandfather, he considers his family to be his primary interest, with golf and travel being two of his favorite pastimes.
