John and Bill Gough were terrific to work with! Through 4 different escrows, spearheading a lengthy repair on the property, staying in touch when I was seemingly always out of town, and doing it all with professionalism and good humor! There was never a time when I didn’t feel they were actively marketing the property or following up on details to make the transaction come together. They were always interested and helpful throughout the process, and very willing to listen to and address my questions or concerns.I would highly recommend them as it is always good to work with competent people, and even better when they are a pleasure to do business with. The Brother’s Gough fit that bill!
There are quite a few qualities that make a good Realtor. They should have a lot of experience, good judgement, the ability to negotiate well, a comprehensive knowledge of the whole market, be very accessible and most of all be trustworthy. I have worked with John and Bill Gough for twenty years and they have all these and more. I have bought and sold half a dozen properties in that time and they have either advised me or represented me in all of them. We have worked on residential, commercial and development projects and they are well versed in each of these. Together they have at least 50 years of collective experience. They know every neighborhood and how to reveal the hidden pitfalls and dig up the unlocked potential. I have always been able to reach them quickly both by phone and text. Most of all, I trust them. I have NEVER been given less than excellent advice and know that they always think of my best interest. These are the guys you have been looking for.

I have known John Gough since 1973 and have used his real estate knowledge many times over the years. He has always been knowledgeable and truthful with his recommendations and advice as to all my real estate questions. John is motivated to do the best job he can for you and get you the best value for your money. I would recommend him highly to anyone that needed a Realtor.John helped in the purchase of a condominium in Santa Barbara when my wife and I were downsizing in 2004. Prices were going crazy and almost any transaction was bid on by multiple buyers. He sent all the owners; in the complex we wanted to buy in; a letter asking them to contact him if they wanted to sell their condo. It worked and we were able to buy without multiple buyers. It was a win, win deal for the seller and for us! I would highly recommend the Brothers Gough to anyone interested in any type of real estate transaction!

Thank you again for all that you did for us in the sale of our home on Gibraltar Road and the purchase of our home in Shadows Hills. You made our dream of living in Shadow Hills a reality with your successful dealing of complex issues and negotiations associated with the purchase of our new home. Following are some of the specifics of things you did for us.
- We met you at a time when we had taken our home off the market after it’s being on the MLS longer than we had anticipated. You were positive and energetic in marketing our home.
- Your guidance in negotiating prices both on the sale of our home and the purchase of our new home was invaluable and produced very positive outcomes. We felt that you always had our interest at heart.
- Your approach in obtaining concessions based upon the results of inspections from the seller of our home yielded remarkable results for us.
- You were patient and nurturing with a prospective buyer as they worked out the finances needed to purchase our home. As a result, these perfect buyers were able to realize their dream and allow us to move on to our dream home.
- You were diligent in helping us obtain our new home in the specific community we had identified as perfect for us.
Throughout the process of buying and selling, you were emotionally supportive and always encouraging in our very narrow focus of our dream community. We enjoyed working with you and cannot thank you enough for all you’ve done for us.

I am so glad we decided to have you represent us in buying this home even though you were representing the seller. I think that decision worked well in our favor. We appreciate you referring the lender to us and assisting the seller in being patient through this tedious process. Your patience and professionalism made this a win-win situation for us as buyers and as well as for the seller.Looking forward to future endeavors.Warmest regards,
My husband and I wanted to let you know how pleased we were with your excellent service in helping us though the transitions involving the sale of our home on the Riviera and purchase of our new home on Gibraltar Road. You were both extremely diligent in seeing that Buyer’s and Seller’s needs were addressed in the best possible way and helped create smooth transactions. As we neared the closings, you went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure it all came together. We thank you very much for helping us through these escrows. I would gladly recommend your service to anyone wishing to sell or purchase a home in Santa Barbara.

I somewhat belatedly but nonetheless sincerely want to express my appreciation for all your fine work and expertise in handling the sale of the property I held as Executor of the Estate of Ardy Barton in Hope Ranch. The listing entailed several challenges that we had not anticipated: the designation as Monarch Butterfly Preserve/ Habitat, designated as having protected trees so that no building could occur within certain proximities, no water meter, and so on. You very professionally dealt with all matters and greatly assisted me and my counsel, Robert Bletcher, with every issue concerning the listing, marketing, and sale of the property though close of escrow. This was not a routine matter, and I am so glad that I selected you, on the basis of Mr. Barton’s previous relationship with you, to be my brokers for this property. Thank you very much.

In January 1971 my family and I arrived in Santa Barbara, upon my release from active duty in the U.S. Army. My first contact was one of the Gough Brothers. In the ensuing 44 years I hadnumerous occasions to not only personally use their talents, but to refer clients to them. I assure you, they will devote their time and expertise to your needs until your goals are completed. They have never disappointed me, except at cards and golf.
